Kerava upper secondary school and upper secondary school for adults is the only Finnish school participating in the international project “Teaching sustainable use of energy and raw materials in an environment affected by climate change.
The project is funded by The Nordic Council of Ministers and co-ordinated by Greenland. The scheme was launched in June 2015 and it will last for two years. The first meeting to get organized was arranged in Sisimiut, Greenland where our teacher in geography and biology, Anu Brunila-Kovanen, attended.
Other participants in the project are Naerum high school in Denmark, Akureyri high school in Iceland, several schools in Greenland (Sisimiut) and the Norwegian Space Center.
The aim of the project in participating schools is to increase awareness of the sustainable development and the sustainable use of energy and raw materials.
With reference to the curriculum reform in Finland (LOPS 2016) one of the aims in this project is also to try new studying and teachings methods; the key words being phenomenon based learning, research, interaction, co-operation, student involvement, digital learning environments.
