Food
production is the lifeline on everyone. With the help of modern
technology, the focusing and rationalization of it has reduced the
amount of required workforce, allowing focusing on other jobs. Even
today, many developing countries are dealing with famine. Luckily the
developed countries don't deal with this problem since their food
production is sufficient. Food is also transported in and out of
borderlines. Like hunger, also the agriculture spreads out unevenly
across the globe. Farming tends to focus on places where the soil,
temperature and rain amounts are best suitable for the job.
What kind of problems does the food production have?
Each year, the population of developing countries increases about by 100 million. There appears conflicts such as civil wars. Because of the food production, many countries are dealing with erosion and desertification. Nature and poor economy can also cause problems as well as child labor and female workforce. The soil in the tropical zone is mostly laterite which is not very fertile, and the primitive farming methods slower the production down.
We carried out a survey to find out about people's knowledge about and attitudes to sustainable food production. Amongst the answers, we found out that domestic food was the most popular, foreign food was the second and locally grown food was the least popular. When asked about the problems in food production the respondents brought out problems such as the increased use of chemicals, fertilizers and preservatives. Also problems like the ineffectiveness of food production in developing countries and the uneven distribution of food sources around the world were brought up. The ethical and environmental problems of meat production came out as well.
