Ground source heat

Ground source heat is a renewable energy source. It is solar power stored in water or in the soil underneath the frost line. (Frost line is the depth to which the frost reaches the earth) The ground source heat is stored into pipes that contain liquid from which the heat is then transferred to the operating and heating water with a heat pump.

Ground source heat is favoured because the use of it is not a threat to the future generations. And it could even decrease global warming. It's mainly used in small households, but it's also suitable for business and office buildings.

Ground source heat is used the most in countries such as China, United States and Germany. Turkey and Japan use it approximately as much as Germany and other European countries.

In Finland there are nowadays about 50 000 ground source heat  systems and the use of ground source heat is growing at a large rate.

In addition, there is geothermal energy which is used in countries with volcanic activity such as Island and Italy.
